Ryan Garcia Announces Joe Goossen as New Head Trainer
Garcia Splits with Eddy Reynoso After Five Fights
Ryan Garcia, one of boxing's rising stars, has announced that he has appointed Joe Goossen as his new head trainer. Garcia made the announcement via press release on Friday, just weeks before his April 9 bout against Mexican puncher Emmanuel Tagoe.
Garcia, who boasts a perfect record of 21-0 with 18 knockouts, had been trained by Eddy Reynoso since late 2018. Reynoso, who was named Ring's 2021 Trainer of the Year, has guided Garcia to several notable victories, including his impressive knockout of Luke Campbell in 2021.
New Corner Team for Garcia's Tagoe Bout
This will be the third time in five fights that Garcia has had a new corner team. In 2022, he parted ways with Reynoso and briefly worked with renowned trainer Freddie Roach before reuniting with Reynoso. However, following his seventh-round knockout loss to Gervonta Davis in January 2023, Garcia and Reynoso split again.
Garcia's decision to appoint Goossen as his head trainer is seen as a strategic move. Goossen, who has trained numerous world champions throughout his career, is known for his meticulous approach and technical prowess. He is expected to help Garcia refine his skills and prepare him for his upcoming fight against the experienced Tagoe.
