Breakdancing at the 2024 Summer Olympics
Subheading 1
Breakdancing is set to make its debut at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, with competitions scheduled to run from 9 to 10 August at Place de la Concorde.
Subheading 2
The breaking competition will comprise two events—one for men and one for women—with 16 B-Boys and 16 B-Girls competing in each. The B-Boys and B-Girls will compete in head-to-head battles, with a panel of judges assessing their skills in terms of power moves, originality, execution, and musicality.
The top four B-Boys and B-Girls from each event will advance to the knockout stage, where they will compete for the gold, silver, and bronze medals. The judging system for the breaking competition will be based on the World DanceSport Federation's (WDSF) breaking rules.
Breakdancing's inclusion in the Olympics is a significant milestone for the sport, which has its roots in the hip-hop culture of the 1970s. It is expected to bring a new level of exposure and recognition to breaking, and to help to further legitimize the sport in the eyes of the general public.
